December Daily 2016 – Day 5

“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things.”

The sound of music it the inspiration for today’s December Daily layout. This afternoon when I opened the mailbox I found the most delightful surprise, a couple of cards from Diana and Patricia. Those of you who have followed me for awhile know I traveled with the African Children’s Choir for a year and a half. I miss those kids like crazy!  Well I sponsor a couple of the kids and today I received a Christmas card from them. I knew I needed to include the cards in my album so I thought it would be fun to stick them in a brown paper package tied up with string.

The first problem I needed to solve was the left hand side of the layout where there was an empty page protector – I couldn’t really ignore those pockets so I did the next best thing. I grabbed a 6×8 paper and covered it. This adorable paper designed by Brandi Kincaid was the perfect addition to today’s layout. I am absolutely loving the doodles by Brandi in the Feed Your Craft Christmas kit I purchased.

I topped that off with a little bit of washi on the top and bottom of the paper – just because those pesky page protectors are slightly larger than 6×8. Added a tiny bit of journalling and I call that page done.

I knew I wanted to do a little bit of decorating on my brown paper package, so I kept it simple but really pretty. I grabbed some red and white bakers twine to add a bow. I also added some homemade red hole reinforcers.

I topped it off with a label stamped with “awe some”, my number 5 and some black and white puffy stickers or enamel dots. Man I love a cluster of embellishments.

Seriously, I think this is the perfect way to include these sweet cards.

I hope you enjoyed today’s layout – it was so much fun to make. If you’d like to check out the process video, you can find that here:
